"Np" was a living work that conjured the chemical element neptunium.

Neptunium was the first element to cross from the threshold of matter that naturally occurs in the world. It opened up the realm of heavy man-made matter, becoming the first element that could only be observed in a nuclear physics lab and never in the “natural world”. As neptunium breaks down and sheds particles, it leaves behind its man-made existence and is slowly re-absorbed into the world of naturally-occurring earthly matter.

This installation made of grass seedlings and sheetrock was kept alive by gallery staff through watering and control of lighting for the duration of the exhibition.
